I’m a kid of the 80’s and 90’s so in my blood flows Atari.
I have always loved playing games.
But, I didn’t feel like I was taken seriously with me skills because I was a girl.
I first remember some sort of handheld game that only haunts my memeories. I found it an old box once, and looked it up online to see what it was. It doesn’t work anymore, but to me it was my first exposure to gaming.
I played some Pac-Man and pin-ball when we were out somewhere, I believe at the bars. I know, I know, kids at bars? It was a very relaxed time when parents would give us kinds some coins and we’d stay occupied for hours playing games. I never have a bad memory of that. My mother has no memory and refuses to admit that she ever took us to a bar more than a few times. It’s OK. I love her and her denial.
Then, my dad got an Atari when I was around 6 or 7 and we would play Dig-Dug, Galaga and Centipede. It was so cool.
Then, as I got older and games changed, I would play video games all the time with the kids I babysat for. And yes, I babysat at 12/13 for kids that were 8/9 yrs old), because I grew up in a time that that was ok. And I grew up in the country where being 12-year-old babysitting for 3 children of 4, 2 and baby was somehow OK.
Some of my favorite games back then were Mario Bros, Mario Cart and Mario World. And there was some type of ski-racing game that I was super good at. I just don’t remember what system it was on.
I would only be able to play these games when I was at a friends or babysitting because my mother was a single parent working her butt of at 2-3 jobs to help keep us afloat. So, I offered to babysit, a lot.
And now, as an adult….. these are my favorite games: See my gameplay for them at Twitch & YouTube
