Don’t get me wrong, I love beiges, browns, tans, and off-whites… but I love them as BACKGROUND staples and I LOVE to decorate with some color… in moderation.
Updating Your Fall Home Decor This Year
I’m not a maximalist or a minimalist, but somewhere in between. Meaning, I like having things but I like them to be clutter-free and clean while creating personality.
And, personally, I’ve found a few things that are going out of style and I’m happy about that!
Here are a few tips to update your fall decor this year
Some of these things include: having pumpkins everywhere, using buffalo plaid as THE fabric for the season, fall signage (“Hello Fall”), fall text sayings on pillows, harsh color schemes where everything matches or is overdone (think orange, black, white combo) and lastly having a ton of overstuffed faux fall flowers that are just old and dated.
So this year, how about decorating with:
- NO PUMPKINS EVERYWHERE
- NO BUFFALO PLAID
- NO FALL SIGNS & TEXT
- NO HARSH COLOR SCHEMES
- NO STUFFY FAUX FLOWERS
Here I’ve put together 5 tips on alternatives to try to help you update your fall home decor.
1. Avoid pumpkins everywhere
Try using apples, leaves, acorns, balls eucalyptus and pampas instead.
2. Reduce the amount of Buffalo plaid
Switch to stripes or more textualized fall patterns
3. Eliminate having signs and words all over
Choose new pillow covers and pattern throws or vintage looking wall decor that doesn’t have words on it but vintage or fall scenery.
4. Get away from harsh color schemes
Fall is all about earthy colors which range from greens to teals to burnt oranges and dark mustard yellows. This also includes the many shades of browns. So, get away from the orange, black and white and throw in some new colors to mix things up but keep it simple and not overdoing it.
5. Simplify the faux flowers this fall
Try sorting through the faux flowers and updating the look simply by removing pieces to just one or a couple of different flowers in the bunch. No need to have 10 different flowers in the bunch. Simplify and it will make such a bigger statement.
